The Climate Program Office’s Stephen R. Piotrowicz will receive one of the 2016 NOAA Administrator’s Awards for his outstanding management of the US Argo Ocean Observing program.

California Current System could experience weak El Niño-related impacts, study says

A CPO-funded study published in Geophysical Research Letters concluded that although tropical Pacific sea surface temperatures hit a record high during the 2015-2016 El Niño, impacts to marine ecosystems and primary production are likely to be weak in the California Current Stystem.

Updates to authoritative Atlantic Hurricane database

The official 1956 to 1960 hurricane season revisions—primarily from the master’s thesis research of Mr. Sandy Delgado—are now available in the HURDAT2 file on the Hurricane Research Division website. 

NOAA's Climate Program Office Announces FY17 Federal Funding Opportunities

CPO’s programs are seeking applications for 7 individual competitions in FY 2017 for an estimated $10 million available and approximately 100 new awards pending budget appropriations. It is anticipated that most awards will be at a funding level between $50,000 and $300,000 per year, with some exceptions for larger awards. Satellites and models show cloud response to climate change, says new study

A study partly funded by the CPO's Climate Observation Division and recently published in Nature Climate Change found evidence of changes in cloud concentration and height due to climate change between the 1980s and 2000s.
