The Earth System Science (ESS) division supports research to provide a process-level understanding of the climate system through observation, modeling, analysis, and field studies. This understanding is needed to improve climate models and predictions so that scientists can better anticipate the impacts of future climate variability and change. The ESS Division comprises two programs: Climate Variability & Predictability (CVP) and Atmospheric Chemistry, Carbon Cycle, & Climate (AC4). Click on the programs below to learn more.
