Topical Collection on Climate Forecast System version 2 (CFSv2) now complete

cfsv2

All 24 papers included in a topical collection on the Climate Forecast System version 2 (CFSv2) have now been published in the international journal Climate Dynamics.
The Climate Program Office, the National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP), and other groups organized this topical collection of papers to document progress in the capability of the CFSv2, NOAA’s operational system for monthly to seasonal outlooks, to simulate important climate phenomena like El Nino and to predict surface temperature and precipitation patterns compared to the previous version of the model.
This collection serves as a key scientific reference for the development of the next generation of the CFS, now underway. It also represents an excellent example of how research in the broad community provides important support for NOAA’s operational mission via coordination between NOAA’s Office of Oceanic and Atmospheric Research (OAR) and the National Weather Service (NWS).
