The Global Framework for Climate Services (GFCS) is a UN-led initiative, reporting to the World Meteorological Organization, which provides a worldwide mechanism for coordinated actions to enhance the quality, quantity and application of climate services. The primary multilateral governance body of the GFCS is the Intergovernmental Board on Climate Services (IBCS).
Wayne Higgins, director of OAR’s Climate Program Office, is the U.S. principal to the IBCS. Dr Higgins will head the U.S. delegation to the second meeting of the Intergovernmental Board on Climate Services (IBCS-2) on November 10-14 in Geneva, Switzerland.
Key topics to be discussed include mechanisms for partner engagement and linkages to relevant technical expertise within WMO and beyond. OAR/CPO works in close partnership with the NWS International Affairs office on all matters related to the GFCS. The delegation will include representation from OAR/CPO (Wayne Higgins, Meredith Muth), the NWS International Affairs office (Courtney Draggon, Amanda McCarty) and the Department of State.
