The National Integrated Heat Health Information System (NIHHIS) and its partners are hosting a webinar series to feature case studies on what happens after communities conduct their Urban Heat Island mapping campaigns. On August 17th at 3pm EDT, the second webinar of the series, “Conducting Heat Vulnerability Indices,” will take place and will highlight communities that are examining heat risk exposure and vulnerability.

Key discussions will explore population, demographics, and health information to detail where the most at-risk residents live in order to characterize their risk factors and guide appropriate interventions. Presentations will feature techniques for creating heat vulnerability maps and how to use them to inform mitigation planning efforts.

Speakers for the event include:

  • Oded Holzinger (Climate Resilience Manager, Groundwork Hudson Valley)
  • Matthew Gonser (Chief Resilience Officer and Executive Director, City and County of Honolulu Office of Climate Change, Sustainability, and Resiliency)
  • Dr. Evan Mallen (Georgia Institute of Technology)
  • Dr. Kathryn Conlon (University of California, Davis).
