Interview with Climate Scientist Nancy Beller-Simms; Women’s History Month 2022

This week, OAR Communications published an interview with Climate Program Office Adaptation Sciences Program lead Nancy Beller-Simms at the NOAA Research website. This article continues a series of interviews with CPO employees and CPO-funded scientists in celebration of Women’s History Month.

Nancy’s master’s thesis and PhD dissertation focused on water resources, from predicting water demand to modeling community preparations for El Niño-Southern Oscillation. She currently works on climate adaptation issues, especially those related to water resources. 

“I have hit…walls throughout my career,” says Nancy in her interview, “but in order to proceed you have to bury yourself in work that has meaning to you, build confidence in yourself, and trust your own instincts.”
