Climate work highlighted in the Fiscal Year 2022 NOAA Education Accomplishments Report

NOAA Education’s Fiscal Year 2022 Accomplishments Report was published on January 31, 2023. The report is divided into sections, each detailing different aspects of NOAA education program’s achievements. There were many climate-related projects that merited recognition in the report, several of which the CEE Division contributed to. Most climate accomplishments were highlighted in two sections of the report: Goal 3: Ready, Responsive, Resilient and Goal 5: Organizational Excellence. These recognitions include:

• The Climate Literacy and Energy Awareness (CLEAN) Network’s website redesign

• The Mid-Atlantic Climate Change Education Conference, which took place virtually in July 2022, brought together educators and the NOAA Education community to share and learn about the latest trends in climate change education.

• The Environmental Literacy Program awarded more than $4.1 million to nine new grantees to implement projects that will help communities develop the environmental literacy necessary to build resilience to extreme weather and climate change.

• NOAA creates the first inventory of federal climate engagement and capacity-building programs with the help of Lapenta interns

• Urban heat island mapping is revolutionizing how cities address extreme heat

• Activity book gets children and youth engaged in local climate resilience
