The team of experts presented their methodologies and initial findings to a group of over 60 decision makers, technical experts, policy makers and scientists from across the region at a two day virtual Stakeholder Dialogue on May 9th and 10th to generate feedback that can be incorporated into the collaborative research agenda. The group was led by Dr. James Hospedales (EarthMedic/EarthNurse), Dr. Robert Dubrow (Yale School of Public Health), Dr. Saria Hassan (Emory University Rollins School of Public Health), Dr. Georgiana Gordon-Strachan (Caribbean Institute for Health Research, University of the West Indies) and Dr. Karen Polson and Ms. Audreyanna Thomas (Pan American Health Organization). In 2021, over twenty-five Caribbean and global partners gathered to convene a landmark conference on Climate Change and Health in Small Island Development States: Focus on the Caribbean. The purpose of the 2021 conference was to: 1) provide an overview of the health impacts of climate change in the Caribbean and mitigation and adaptation efforts to address these impacts; 2) understand and prioritize knowledge gaps to define an action-oriented research agenda to reduce the adverse health impacts of climate change; and 3) foster multi-sectoral and regional collaboration, innovation and sharing to facilitate implementation of a research agenda for climate and health. Discussions at the conference gave rise to a coalition of partners committed to the further development of a prioritized research agenda tailored to the needs of citizens and decision makers, and designed to promote transformative resilience in the region.
