Topical collection of Climate Forecast System version 2 (CFSv2) papers

cfsv2

A topical collection of Climate Forecast System version 2 (CFSv2) papers was co-organized by NOAA’s Climate Program Office and the National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP).

CFSv2 is a couple global climate model used for operational intraseasonal-to-interannual prediction. NCEP developed CFSv2 over the course of several years and implemented into operations in March 2011. Climate Program Office sponsored research significantly contributed to the development of CFSv2. A CFSv2 Evaluation Workshop was held in 2012 to bring broader climate community together with NCEP scientists to evaluate CFSv2 for its utility for climate modeling research and as a climate forecast tool.

This topical collection includes a selection of peer-reviewed papers presented at the workshop. The 20 plus papers in this collection have documented progress in CFSv2 performance in simulating intraseasonal-to-interannual climate variability and prediction key climate variables compared to its previous version.
This collection of papers should provide insight for the development of the next generation CFS. The collection co-organized by NCEP and the Climate Program Office is now accessible at http://link.springer.com/journal/382/topicalCollection/AC_0c8dce90d46a2a6b4e60584773e8daf1/page/1
