Laura Petes named ESA fellow

CPO scientist Laura Petes has been named an Ecological Society of America Early Career Fellow. Dr. Petes was inducted as an ESA Early Career Fellow earlier in August.
Petes is the Ecosystem Science Advisor for the NOAA Climate Program Office and works closely with the COCA program. Laura also collaborates across NOAA offices and other Federal agencies to strengthen partnerships between climate change and ecosystem programs to ensure that science meets the needs of coastal and ocean decision makers and managers.
She joined the Climate Program Office in 2009 as an American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) Science & Technology Policy Fellow. Petes has been involved in several major U.S. climate and ocean initiatives, including the Interagency Climate Change Adaptation Task Force, the National Ocean Policy, and the National Climate Assessment. Her scientific background and expertise are on the impacts of climate and global change on coastal and marine ecosystems. Petes has a Ph.D. in Zoology (Marine Ecology) from Oregon State University and a B.A. in Biology from Cornell University.
