Rachel Riley, Deputy Director of the CPO RISA Southern Climate Impacts Planning Program (SCIPP) at the University of Oklahoma, along with Paula Dennison and Rob Hill who work for the City of Stillwater, Oklahoma, have been named the winner of The Tech Innovators category for the 2019 Route Fifty Navigator Awards. The team won for developing the Simple Planning Tool (SPT) for planners and emergency managers to assess the local, long-term climate risks in Oklahoma communities. The SPT is a compilation of relatively easy-to-use online interactive tools, maps, and graphs that helps cut through the internet clutter and points to relatively simple data tools. Riley worked with the City of Stillwater officials every step of the way in scoping the concept, design, and implementation. SCIPP also recently received an award from the American Planning Association Oklahoma Chapter for this tool. The SPT was developed because of the needs expressed by local level planners and emergency managers at workshops that SCIPP hosted in 2017 and 2018.

Ms. Riley, Ms. Dennison and Mr. Hill received their award on November 20th in San Antonio, Texas, during the National League of Cities’ annual City Summit. The Route Fifty awards recognize innovators in state and local government who are reinventing government services across the country.
