The Climate Program Office is partnering with Climate Generation, a Minnesota based Climate Change Education organization, on the Summer Institute for Climate Change Education August 5-7, 2019 at the Lowell School in Washington D.C. The goal of the institute is to support teachers to prepare their students to be global citizens. The institute will connect the dots between climate change and economic, social, and political dimensions by using literature and language as a bridge to understand the complexities of climate change. A key part of the institute will be day-long field trip around Washington D.C. featuring sites in the city’s climate action plan showing local solutions. Melissa Deas, a Climate Program Analyst for the Government of the District of Columbia, will provide the teachers a Climate Action Plan Overview at the American Geophysical Union followed by a Net Zero Building Tour of the new AGU climate smart building.
