The South Central U.S. CPO RISA team, Southern Climate Impacts Planning Program (SCIPP), received an award from the Oklahoma Chapter of the American Planning Association (APA) for its Simple Planning Tool (SPT) for Oklahoma Climate Hazards. The tool is a compilation of relatively easy-to-use online interactive tools, maps, and graphs to assist planners and emergency managers in the state of Oklahoma who are assessing their long-term climate risks, both historically and in the future. Developed in 2017 and 2018 through collaborations with planners and emergency managers across the state of Oklahoma, the tool aims to cut through the internet clutter and point to relatively simple data tools that can be used during planning processes and in plans. Presented at a Gala during the Quad State APA conference in Tulsa, Oklahoma on 10 October 2019, the SPT received the 2019 Outstanding Public Outreach, Program, Project, Tool, or Community Initiative award. Rachel Riley accepted the award on behalf of SCIPP. Paula Dennison, Assistant City Manager for the City of Stillwater and Rob Hill, Director of Emergency Management for the City of Stillwater were key practitioners involved in the development of the SPT and nominated it for the award. Mr. Hill joined Ms. Riley at the awards gala to accept the award.
