ESSM releases Extreme Heat Workshop Report

CPO’s Earth System Science and Modeling (ESSM) Division released a report describing outcomes from the ESSM Workshop on Climate Research to Enhance Resilience to Extreme Heat. The workshop aimed to identify opportunities for ESSM’s programs to support climate research that enhances resilience to extreme heat. Workshop participants from OAR labs, NOAA Fisheries, and academic institutions provided comprehensive input to the report, including valuable feedback on key user perspectives, research gaps, and recommendations for future action for terrestrial and marine heat waves.

The report captures two days of plenary presentations and small breakout group discussions, including speaker abstracts and summaries of small break out group discussions. It also provides recommendations for future research directions for both ESSM and partners. Additional information, including presentations, a brief two-pager, and the full workshop report are available on the workshop website.
