The Summer Institute for Climate Change Education is a collaborative effort between NOAA CPO’s CEE Division and Climate Generation, a non-profit focused on teaching individual and community-level climate solutions through an interdisciplinary lens. The program provides educators across the country with resources, professional development opportunities, and an expansive network for community building. CPO’s CEE Division has partnered with Climate Generation on the Summer Institute for Climate Education since 2019. When the COVID-19 pandemic began in 2020, the institute pivoted from an in-person conference to a virtual one. The 2020 “Stay-In-stitute” was so successful that the institute was held virtually again in 2021, and will be again this summer as well.

In addition to general information and discussion sessions, the conference will include sessions targeted towards different regions of the U.S. Each of the 13 regional “cohorts” will be instructed by a different organization. NOAA regional offices will serve as the cohort leader for three of the regions: the Chesapeake Bay, Hawaii, and the Pacific Northwest. A map of the regional cohort breakdown can be viewed on the 2022 Summer Institute homepage. The dates for the 2022 Summer Institute group conference sessions are July 18th and 19th, with the regional cohort sessions held on July 20th, 21st, and 22nd.
