CPO’S RISA Program and NIHHIS to present on environmental justice and the Justice40 Initiative at NOAA’s third Equity in Action symposium

NOAA is hosting its third Equity in Action Symposium on its role in environmental justice and current efforts to support President Biden’s Justice40 Initiative. Justice40 is the first ever Federal initiative aiming to direct 40 percent of the overall benefits of certain federal investments to frontline communities – those who have been marginalized, underserved, overburdened by pollution, and who will experience disproportionate impacts of climate change. CPO employees with the Regional Integrated Sciences and Assessments (RISA) program, and the National Integrated Heat Health Information System (NIHHIS) will be presenting on service equity, and diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIA) efforts across the agency. Ariela Zycherman with RISA will offer an overview of the White House Justice40 Initiative and share some insights of the ways in which RISA’s on the ground justice and equity efforts contribute to the Initiative. Morgan Zabow with NIHHIS will focus on heat & health, systemic injustices in extreme heat exposure, highlight the urban heat island mapping program, and describe why an integrated information system like NIHHIS is a useful approach.

The webinar is scheduled for October 18th, 2022 from 2 PM to 4 PM EST.
