CPO's Frank Niepold to Speak During Stepping Up Action for Climate Empowerment Webinar

  • 20 April 2021

On April 28, CPO’s Frank Niepold, newly designated U.S. Action for Climate Empowerment (ACE) National Focal Point, will present during the “Stepping Up Action for Climate Empowerment” webinar—a dialogue to celebrate and strengthen international collaboration toward all of society climate action, in the context of the Earth Day 2021 Climate Leaders Summit convened by U.S. President Joe Biden.

This webinar will especially celebrate the return of the United States as party to the Paris Agreement and invite the new U.S. Administration to participate and demonstrate leadership in global efforts for ACE. John Kerry, Special Presidential Envoy for Climate with the U.S. State Department, has been invited to provide a high level political statement. Frank Niepold will provide remarks regarding the development of a U.S. ACE National Strategy.

Other invited speakers include:

  • Leonore Gewessler, Minister for Climate Action, Republic of Austria;
  • Patricia Espinosa, Executive Secretary of the UN Climate Change secretariat;
  • Carolina Schmidt, COP25 president, Chile;
  • Roberto Cingolani, Minister for Ecological Transition / COP26 Co-Presidency, Italian Republic; and
  • A high level Representative of the African Group of Countries.

The organizers and partners of the webinar are optimistic that the year 2021 will be a turning point in the fight against the climate crisis. They are convinced that all stakeholders globally will join forces and resources on the journey toward a climate-safe future. For this positive future to unfold, new thinking on ACE is necessary, along with a particular focus on strengthening party and non-party stakeholder cooperation, international and multilateral cooperation, and non-party stakeholder engagement in ambitious multilateral cooperation structures in support of climate action.

The webinar is being organized in the context of the ACE Action for Climate Empowerment Innovation project. It is initiated and funded by the Austrian Federal Ministry for Climate Action, in collaboration with lead partner the UN Climate Change secretariat and associated partners the non-party stakeholders ECOS, IAAI and ICLEI.
