On February 11, NOAA’s Climate Program Office hosted the 1st annual U.S. Climate Modelling Summit (USCMS) at the NOAA Center for Weather and Climate Prediction in College Park, Md.
This summit brought together leads from the major national climate model development groups to enhance strategic planning, communication, and organization toward a common national climate modeling strategy. Six leading national climate modeling groups, including those from OAR Geophysical Fluids Dynamic Laboratory and NOAA’s National Weather Service (NWS) National Centers for Environmental Protection, were represented.
The primary goal for this inaugural summit was to develop a common vision with unique roles for each NWS center, and a national strategic roadmap for climate modeling.
The summit was convened by the USGCRP Interagency Group on Integrated Modeling (IGIM) and hosted by NOAA/OAR/CPO that co-chairs the IGIM.
