The first workshop of the NOAA International Research and Applications Project (IRAP) was held May 29-30, 2014, in conjunction with the Caribbean Regional Climate Outlook Forum (CARICOF).
The May 28 CARICOF was organized by NOAA, the Caribbean Institute for Meteorology and Hydrology (CIMH), the US Agency for International Development (USAID) and other partners.
Immediately prior to the CARICOF, meteorologists from across the Caribbean - including the NWS Office in Puerto Rico – participated in a training event, and developed a seasonal outlook for the region’s upcoming rainy season.
Incorporating this product in their discussions, the IRAP research team from the University of Arizona and the International Research Institute for Climate and Society (IRI) ran a two-day workshop that engaged researchers, meteorologists, and resource managers from various sectors throughout the Caribbean in a structured exploration of how to best integrate climate information and decision processes for climate resilience. Outcomes from this workshop include a suite of metrics for potential use in developing and evaluating climate services.
