CPO’s Climate Variability & Predictability (CVP) program funded research which contributed to “A Review of Mechanisms for Formation of an Anomalous Anticyclone in the Western North Pacific During El Nino,” a chapter in the newest edition of The Multiscale Global Monsoon System. This new edition reflects the state of the knowledge of all scales of monsoon in the world’s monsoon regions and includes 31 chapters in five parts: Regional Monsoons, Extreme Weather, Intraseasonal Variations, Climate Change, and Field Experiments. The recently published book is part of the World Scientific Series on Asia-Pacific Weather and Climate.
“A Review of Mechanisms for Formation of an Anomalous Anticyclone in the Western North Pacific During El Nino,” by Tim Li, Bin Wang and C.P. Chang, summarizes research progress made in the past 20 years regarding the physical understanding of the western North Pacific anomalous anticyclone (WNPAC) formation. WNPAC is an important circulation system that conveys the El Niño impact on the East Asian climate.
