C&GC Fellow Robert Fajber to present at October 4 Webinar on the Link Between Evaporation and Heat Transport

This webinar is part of a series featuring NOAA Climate and Global Change (C&GC) Fellows in the NOAA Science Seminar Series. C&GC is supported by NOAA’s Climate Program Office and managed by the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR). Robert Fajber is a recent C&GC Fellow, pursuing Atmospheric Dynamics in Polar Amplification at the University of Washington.

This talk will explore the link between Evaporation and Heat Transport using a variety of model experiments and observational analysis. Robert will demonstrate how evaporation drives both the moist and dry components of atmospheric heat transport by decomposing the heat transport into physically based components which relate the heat transport to different diabatic processes. He will show results from a coupled ocean atmospheric model using perturbed evaporation, which changes the partitioning between the atmospheric and oceanic heat transport. Robert will discuss the biases and spread in cmip model heat transport relative to observations, and our hypotheses as to the cause.
