From May 2-3rd, 2023, the NOAA Blue Carbon Inventory Project convened a two-day meeting to provide Senegal with technical support and capacity building for monitoring, mapping, and managing mangrove, seagrass, and other coastal blue carbon ecosystems. The first day of the convening included a meeting in Dakar, Senegal that engaged almost 20 participants from across the Senegal Ministère de l’Environnement et du Développement Durable and their partners, including staff from across Senegal national marine protected areas. The second day of the convening included a visit to a marine protected area in Somone and a restoration site in Joal-Fadiouth with a smaller subset of Senegalese partners.

This meeting was organized by the NOAA Blue Carbon Inventory Project (BCIP), a Department of State funded, multi-agency project led by the Climate Program Office that supports countries’ efforts to include coastal wetlands in their greenhouse gas accountings.
