A new scientific review supported by COM assesses the existing knowledge on ocean carbon uptake and emphasizes an urgent need to expand observational capacity to inform climate mitigation.

A recent article supported by AC4 entitled "Enhanced North American carbon uptake associated with El Niño" was published June 5, 2019, in Science Advances. The study found that long-term atmospheric CO2 observations over North America document a persistent response to the El Niño–Southern Oscillation.

New research in Geophysical Research Letters and partially funded by CPO's AC4 program found that the Bakken Formation, an oil and gas field in North Dakota and Montana, is responsible for roughly 2 percent of the globe's ethane--about 250,000 tons per year.
