NOAA RISA 2011 Annual Report now available online

 

For over 15 years, NOAA's Regional Integrated Sciences and Assessments (RISA) program has been supporting research teams that conduct interdisciplinary and regionally relevant research to inform resource management, planning, and public policy. The program's new 2011 annual report contains a description of the major activities and accomplishments of the RISAs in 2011.

Three training courses in Colorado, Arizona, and West Virginia are scheduled for spring 2012. The courses are designed to guide conservation and resource management practitioners through the essential elements in the design of climate adaptation plans.

A drifting buoy was adopted and deployed in November 2011 as part of NOAA's Adopt a Drifter Program, and is being followed by students as it tracks northwest of the Hawaiian Islands.

In partnership with state, tribal, and federal agency partners, the Obama Administration has released the first draft national strategy to help decision makers and resource managers prepare for and help reduce the impacts of climate change on species, ecosystems, and the people and economies that depend on them.

In April 2011, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) co-hosted a workshop on Climate Change Impacts and Responses: Societal Indicators for the National Climate Assessment.
