On Thursday, September 26th, the Climate Program Office’s Climate and Societal Interactions (CSI) Division hosted a webinar titled, Modeling Nature-based Solutions for Decision Making. This was the first episode in a five-part webinar series on nature-based solutions (NbS). NbS are actions to protect, sustainably manage, or restore natural or modified ecosystems to address societal challenges, while simultaneously providing benefits for people and the environment. This webinar series features projects focused on the research and application of NbS that have received funding from CSI’s Adaptation Sciences (AdSci) and Climate Adaptation Partnerships (CAP) programs.

The first episode included Marissa Webber and Nastaran Tebyanian from the Mid-Atlantic CAP team as well as Steven Scyphers from the University of South Alabama. The webinar discussed two projects: the Mid-Atlantic CAP team’s “Integrated Modeling and Decision Support for Stormwater Managers” project and an AdSci-funded project on “Collaborative Modeling the Benefits, Consequences, and Trade-offs of Mangroves and Seawalls for Coastal Communities.” The webinar had 342 participants and 725 registrants. All registrants will receive a recording of the webinar along with the slidedeck used to support the presentations.
