Under the Biden Administration’s Justice40 initiative, the NIHHIS Urban Heat Island mapping program tracks and reports on the allocation of benefits to Environmental Justice (EJ) communities. This tool combines the new White House Climate and Economic Justice Screening Tool, which identifies communities that are marginalized, underserved, and overburdened by pollution, and the NIHHIS Urban Heat Island mapping data to enable investigation of how disadvantaged communities are exposed to higher temperatures due to the urban heat island effect.
