Climate and Societal Interactions Division Nature-Based Solutions Webinar Series

NOAA-supported science & implementation of ecosystem-based approaches for communities to equitably adapt to climate change.

This five-part webinar series features projects funded by the Climate and Societal Interactions (CSI) Division’s Adaptation Sciences (AdSci) and Climate Adaptation Partnerships (CAP) programs focused on the research and application of nature-based solutions (NbS), which are actions to protect, sustainably manage, or restore natural or modified ecosystems to address societal challenges, simultaneously providing benefits for people and the environment.

CSI invests in research networks that connect and align cutting-edge science with the most urgent needs of stakeholders. As projects are rooted in community needs, NbS work funded through AdSci and CAP varies and includes topics ranging from identifying trade-offs and co-benefits of NbS, to informing decision support and community planning, as well as evaluation of projects once implemented.

Each webinar episode will:

  • Provide a brief overview of the AdSci and CAP programs;
  • Feature projects funded by both AdSci and CAP to demonstrate the diverse contributions to the body of NbS research and practice of implementation; and,
  • Include time for the audience to ask the presenters questions.

Goals of this webinar series include:

  • Increased awareness of recent and current NbS research from across CSI programs.
  • Facilitated discussion of research results to improve understanding, application, and evidence generation for decision-making to reduce climate risks through NbS.

The target audience for this webinar is:

  • Federal, state, and local leaders and decision-makers (including non-governmental organizations) who are working to reduce the impacts of extreme heat, coastal and inland flooding, stormwater runoff/water quality, and address other socioeconomic challenges related to climate change.
  • NbS researchers and practitioners who are interested in conducting community-based climate science and implementing solutions.
  • The general public who may be working to manage climate impacts through NbS in their own communities.
