The goal of the project is to develop an advanced and consistent coupling between cloud condensation nuclei (CCN) and variability in clouds and turbulence, not by improved CCN activation schemes per se, but instead by improving the parameterized variability in cloud and turbulence processes. The improved coupling will be implemented into a cloud/turbulence parameterization. The parameterization will be used to simulate clean and polluted cloud cases observed during the VOCALS-REx field experiment. Assistance will be leant to GFDL in implementing the cloud/turbulence parameterization into their GCM providing a direct conduit from research results to global climate simulations.
