Maggie Allen is a Climate & Health Policy Program Manager at the Climate Program Office (CPO), where she works with the National Integrated Heat Health Information System (NIHHIS) to build just resilience to extreme heat. Maggie coordinates numerous policy and social science efforts, and dedicates part of her time working with Jainey Bavishi on building equitable grant making efforts throughout NOAA.
Before coming to CPO, Maggie was an Education Specialist for NOAA’s Office of Education for 6.5 years, beginning as a Knauss Marine Policy Fellow. While there, she served as a grants manager for NOAA’s Environmental Literacy Program and coordinated a network of 27 aquariums. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies-Sociology from Whitman College and a master’s degree in Marine and Environmental Affairs and a Nonprofit Management Certificate from the University of Washington. While in graduate school, she conducted participatory research with a local indigenous community to understand how they successfully utilised their fishing rights and led a coalition to halt a fossil fuel project on their land. She also has extensive research experience with environmental education, climate and environmental justice, and fisheries policy.
Maggie has obtained certificates in Climate Change Communications from the National Network for Ocean and Climate Change Interpretation (NNOCCI) and in Behavioral Insights and Public Policy from the Harvard Kennedy School of Executive Education. She is also on the Board of Directors for the National Marine Educators Association (NMEA).
