The intention is to study and work with the Ocracoke community over the next decade in order to assess climate adaptation issues as perceived by community stakeholders and identified through coastal data. This project will explore cultural processes, risk perception, needs, and action among year-round (as opposed to seasonal occupants) of the Ocracoke community. This work will include examining compound disasters, cultural and environmental elements that define coastal resilience, and interdependencies between the island and mainland. Ultimately, data collected can be used to inform future community decisions, housing construction, health needs and staffing, school planning and a climate adaptation plan for Ocracoke residents.
