The Southern Climate Impacts Planning Program (SCIPP) will host its third Climate Justice webinar on February 3, 2023, from 1-2pm CT. Led by SCIPP’s Dr. Simone Domingue, the purpose of this webinar series is to support socially-just climate adaptation that builds community resilience to coupled environmental and economic stressors and disasters.
Webinar 3 in the series, entitled, “Hurricane Harvey Aid and Recovery Equity for People of Color Communities”, will bring individuals together from different sectors to answer a few of the following questions and more: What are the climate justice and disaster recovery struggles for People of Color Communities around the Houston area following Hurricane Harvey? How are organizations responding to civil rights violations following relief allocation and other recovery inequities? The session will include a panel discussion of community organizers, fair housing advocates, and social science researchers from West Street Recovery, Texas Housers, and the University of Colorado at Boulder
The audience will include a mixture of people representing community-based organizations, researchers in non-profits, academia, and in government, local government employees, and undergraduate and graduate students in environmental and disaster-related fields. This webinar will be virtual and hosted via Zoom.
