The International Tree-Ring Data Bank (ITRDB), established 50 years ago, is a vital scientific resource containing over 6,000 tree ring chronologies used to study long-term climate patterns and environmental changes. NOAA manages this global repository, which has enabled countless studies on how Earth’s systems respond to climate variations. Recent updates ensure the data is accessible and meets modern standards,  thanks to global collaboration in the dendrochronology community. The ITRDB’s continued growth and adaptability promise to support future research, offering valuable insights into climate change and ecological processes for years to come.

The Climate Program Office’s Climate Observations and Monitoring (COM) program provides funding to NOAA’s National Centers for Environmental Information Applied Research Center, which oversees and manages paleoclimate archives for the ITRDB.
