The goal of the project is to design, construct and deploy two new APEX gas floats. One will be deployed to the South Atlantic on a three year mission to measure temperature, salinity, pO2 and pN2. The second will be deployed to the North Atlantic on a six month mission to measure pCO2 and pCH4 in addition to temperature, salinity, pO2 and pN2. The goal is to estimate air-sea gas transfer rates, bubble injection rates (i.e. air-sea gas transfer during high wind events) and net community production. The data will be assimilated into the ARGO program.
