The NOAA CPO Modeling, Analysis, Predictions, and Projections
This workshop brought together participants from universities, research laboratories, as well as operational centers and application communities. The goal of the workshop, organized by Jim Carton (University of Maryland), Gilbert Compo (University of Colorado/CIRES & ESRL/PSD), Arun Kumar (NOAA/CPC), Suru Saha (NOAA/NCEP/EMC), and Heather Archambault (NOAA/CPO), was to discuss advancements in fundamental areas supporting reanalysis across NOAA as well as university and international efforts, identify gaps, and improve coordination of future initiatives towards enhancing reanalysis capabilities for end users. Expected outcomes included strengthened development and utilization of reanalysis datasets by NOAA and partner organizations, as well as a NOAA OAR Technical Report summarizing discussions and strategies. From developing the first reanalysis dataset to convening this technical workshop, NOAA continues to lead national and international community efforts to advance reanalysis goals for improving monitoring, understanding, and prediction of our weather and climate.
