The Carolinas Collaborative on Climate, Health, and Equity (C3HE), the North Carolina State Climate Office, the North Carolina Office of Recovery and Resiliency, the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, and Duke University Heat Policy Innovation Hub, held a workshop on July 13 in Fayetteville, NC. The purpose of the workshop was to convene local government officials in North Carolina to help them create equity-centered heat response protocols. The C3HE team created a draft template and worked through individual template development with 12 county governments representatives in the July 2023 workshop. This pilot cohort will test their protocols in summer 2023, and work with the project team over the fall and winter of 2024 to evaluate and assess the efficacy. The project team will launch a heat protocol template and training for all local governments in North Carolina prior to 2024 heat season.
