The award winning, NOAA-created, Washington D.C. Urban Heat Island Virtual Reality application brought together a multi-LO team to produce a cutting edge new application to teach people about urban heat in a novel format, reaching audiences at the UNFCCC COP, AMS Annual, AGU Fall, and Esri Fed GIS conferences.
This summer, NOAA and citizen scientists will map the hottest parts of 18 communities in 14 states across the country and in one international city.

This Special Edition Drought Status Update was issued to help answer the question, “What do the recent storms mean for drought in the West?”
More than 10 CPO staff, research team members, and interns will attend and present on climate-related topics at the 2023 American Meteorological Society (AMS) meeting. The presentations represent a total of 19 abstracts. As leaders in the field, some of the staff will lead sessions and town halls while others are supporting authors. Showcasing the Heat.gov portal, housed under NOAA’s CPO, provides a one-stop hub on heat and health for the U.S. and is a priority of President Biden’s National Climate Task Force and its Interagency Working Group on Extreme Heat.
