On January 19, CPO’s Communication, Education, and Engagement Division Chief David Herring participated in an interactive panel session on innovation at the Department of Commerce at the Census Bureau’s Open Innovation Summit. The three-day summit, led by the Census Bureau’s Census Open Innovation Labs (COIL), featured innovative technology and data products, amplified the value of open innovation in government, hosted conversations with leading experts and community leaders, and provided hands-on learning opportunities for attendees. Herring’s talk, titled “The Resilience Ecosystem: A Whole-of-Society Approach to Addressing the Climate Crisis,” summarized a new approach for coordinating and collaborating with the nation’s community of climate adaptation and resilience practitioners. He shared examples that demonstrated the viability and effectiveness of co-investing in a shared strategy that produces open and inclusive products and services for the benefit of everyone in working in this ecosystem.
