On March 21st, CEE Division’s David Herring, Dr. Ned Gardiner, and Nicole Rucker co-hosted the USGCRP Federal Adaptation and Resilience Group (FARG) meeting, along with more than 70 other federal employees and affiliates.
Key takeaways from the discussions include the following:
- the importance of collaboration among agencies at all levels of government, with a focus on defining common variables like equity and tracking them consistently across programs;
- the need for ongoing conversations to align processes and reduce burdens on partners, potentially through enhanced federal-level technical assistance;
- risk assessments and financial assistance processes should be included in future plans;
- given challenges in finding and applying for funding opportunities, there was a call for improved collaboration across agencies and a clearer understanding of available opportunities and metrics;
- a common vocabulary and consistent metrics across agency programs
- incorporating learning as a success metric in the evaluation and monitoring process
As a result of attendee feedback, the web pages at the Climate Mapping for Resilience and Adaptation and on the Climate Resilience Toolkit will be updated with information about funding and technical assistance opportunities.
