This weekend, the Marine Ecosystems Climate Risk Team, a partnership between the Climate Program Office and Office of National Marine Sanctuaries, will lead a session at the International Marine Protected Areas Congress 5 (IMPAC5) in Vancouver, Canada. The team worked with AOML’s Chris Keble and NOAA-funded researcher Samantha Siedlecki (University of Connecticut) to develop a workbook to help Marine Protected Area (MPA) managers become more comfortable making decisions and navigating uncertainty when presented with climate data. The IMPAC is a global forum that brings together ocean conservation professionals and high-level officials to inform, inspire, and act on marine protected areas.

CPO’s Marine Ecosystems Climate Risk Team (MERT) aims to provide climate research and information to reinforce and expand the application of climate science in National Marine Sanctuaries activities, and ultimately improve long-term planning and management of the Sanctuaries System in support of NOAA’s Stewardship mission.
