CEE Division Chief David Herring served on a review panel on Oct. 23-24 to assess the goals, strategies, and success of the Office of Communications and Public Affairs (OCPA) within the Department of Energy’s Office of Science. OCPA’s missions are to amplify the role of discovery science as the basic currency for our nation’s innovation economy, leverage public interest in discovery science to reinforce the role of DOE as a federal science agency, and motivate and prepare staff members and grantees to be scientist-ambassadors for discovery science. In many respects, the structure of DOE’s Office of Science and its research labs resembles that of OAR and the other line offices and labs in NOAA. David’s participation in this review panel has opened opportunities to share lessons learned across agencies and to explore potential synergies with DOE.
