CPO’s Communication, Education, and Engagement Division (CEE) is pleased to announce the award of a three-year grant in Fiscal Year 2020 (FY20) to the Climate Resilience Fund (CRF)—a non-profit grant-funding organization that conducts and manages an annual open competition to support projects aimed at scaling up and accelerating the pace of climate resilience-building in the United States. This competitively selected program totals over $1.5 million, including about $745,000 in grant funds from CEE and about $768,000 in matching funds from CRF.
In support of NOAA’s mission, the CEE Division helps U.S. communities and businesses better understand and manage their climate-related risks and opportunities, and build resilience to climate-related hazards. To help achieve this mission, CEE manages and maintains the U.S. Climate Resilience Toolkit, which gives the public easy access to federal science-based information, tools, data products, and expertise—all designed to help U.S. decision makers, resource managers, municipal planners, and business and policy leaders build climate resilience. Scalability and replicability of existing, successful tools and methods are of particular interest to CEE; therefore, partnerships with other government, academic, commercial, and non-profit organizations working on climate adaptation and resilience are essential to our success.

To achieve the efficiencies and economies of scale that are required, we must build a robust public-private partnership—a ‘resilience ecosystem’—that enables us to collaborate instead of working in a competitive, siloed mindset.”
The new program funded by the CEE Division in FY20 is titled “Coordination and Collaboration in the Resilience Ecosystem (CCRE) Competitive Grants Program.”
- The Climate Resilience Fund (CRF) pools philanthropic funds and works with climate resilience field leaders and federal agencies to initiate and support efforts to align investment priorities. CRF manages an annual competition to re-grant these pooled funds in order to leverage and support projects designed to scale up and accelerate the pace of climate adaptation in the United States. This approach aims to generate a shared vision among a national climate resilience “ecosystem” of service providers, help define standards of practice and common metrics for success, and build capacity to support adaptation and resilience outcomes in all U.S. communities and regions.
