NOAA is charged with supporting our Nation’s economic vitality and protecting lives and resources, which requires a constant influx of the latest tools and techniques from science conducted within NOAA and by experts in the external community. To foster a fast and seamless transition of cutting-edge research to NOAA products and services, NOAA houses 12 different test beds and proving grounds to evaluate the readiness of new capabilities for operational use. This week, participants from NOAA and the 12 testbeds, including NOAA MAPP Program-funded investigators leading projects under the Climate Test Bed, and other academic and private sector partners met for the 9th annual workshop to enhance communication and exchange lessons-learned and best practices across the current NOAA and related test beds/proving grounds. This year, the workshop featured an integrating science theme focused on testing conducted toward the operational launch of NOAA’s Next Generation Global Prediction System in 2019. Participants provided updates on current and future NOAA test bed and proving ground projects and outcomes will include a workshop summary. In particular, the meeting featured presentations of MAPP-Climate Test Bed project research results which recently transitioned into the National Weather Service operational suite. The workshop will take place April 10-11 at in Kansas City, Missouri.  Learn more: http://www.testbeds.noaa.gov/events/2018/workshop/    About MAPP
The Modeling, Analysis, Predictions, and Projections (MAPP) Program is a competitive research program in NOAA Research’s Climate Program Office. MAPP’s mission is to enhance the Nation’s and NOAA’s capability to understand, predict, and project variability and long-term changes in Earth’s system and mitigate human and economic impacts. To achieve its mission, MAPP supports foundational research, transition of research to applications, and engagement across other parts of NOAA, among partner agencies, and with the external research community. MAPP plays a crucial role in enabling national preparedness for extreme events like drought and longer-term climate changes. For more information, please visit www.cpo.noaa.gov/MAPP.
