Haley Crim (CEE) and Lauren Gibson (NOAA Advisor on Youth Engagement) co-planned a youth panel at COP28 featuring 5 young women climate leaders from around the country and Guam to talk about youth demands of the U.S. government. The panel was on December 8th, COP28’s youth day, at the U.S. Center in Dubai.

Dr. Spinrad and Brenda Mallory (Chair of the White House Council on Environmental Quality) presented, and Bama Athreya (Deputy Assistant Administrator of the Bureau for Development, Democracy and Innovation at USAID), Dr. Ellen Stofan (Under Secretary for Science and Research at the Smithsonian) and Shannon Estenoz (Assistant Secretary for Fish and Wildlife and Parks at the Department of the Interior) and Abby Finkenauer (Special Envoy for Global Youth Issues, US State Department) were in the audience.

The panel was closed by Dr. Spinrad announcing the update of the Climate Literacy Guide, which will go out for public comment in the spring, and the second iteration of the NOAA Young Changemakers Fellowship, as well as other exciting interagency youth engagement efforts.
