CEE’s Frank Niepold and Haley Crim are spearheading the U.S. Global Change Research Program’s effort to update “Climate Literacy: The Essential Principles of Climate Science”, first published in 2009. The original guide has informed educators and the public in the US and around the world, including influencing the Next Generation Science Standards. The effort to update the guide was announced in a White House fact sheet on March 22.
Public input is sought to create a guide that is broadly relevant and provides useful climate information to all people. The updated guide will reflect current climate science, engagement, workforce development, education methods, and include a focus on informed climate decisions. The team is interested in personal narrative and experience; Indigenous Knowledge; local knowledge and lived experience; and technical, legal, and scientific content, or research from any discipline.
