Benjamin DeAngelo is the Acting Director of the Climate Program Office. He helps lead all of the office’s efforts to support foundational climate research, to advance our understanding of adaptation and resiliency to a changing climate at the regional level, and to engage with numerous partners and educators who need climate information. DeAngelo initiated the partnership between NOAA and the American Society of Civil Engineers. DeAngelo also serves as NOAA’s Principal to the U.S. Global Change Research Program (USGCRP), and from 2021-2023 served as the Chair of the Arctic Monitoring and Assessment Program (AMAP), a working group under the Arctic Council. Before joining NOAA in 2017, DeAngelo was the Deputy Executive Director of USGCRP and Senior Advisor for the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. He helped stand up and lead the 4th U.S. National Climate Assessment (2018). Prior to that DeAngelo was with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) where he was a Senior Analyst for climate science and policy. He is an author or editor on over 25 publications covering climate impact assessments, black carbon aerosols, greenhouse gas mitigation, and Arctic trends. DeAngelo received his bachelor’s at Pennsylvania State University, master’s in geography at the University of Toronto, and was a Fulbright Scholar in Germany. In 2022, DeAngelo was named by Penn State’s College of Earth and Mineral Sciences as one of its 125th Anniversary Fellows.
