The Weather Channel’s Warming Signs podcast highlights Carolinas RISA extreme heat research
Carolinas RISA team’s Dr. Ashley Ward joined The Weather Channel’s Kait Parker on the podcast, Warming Signs, to discuss the relationship between high heat days and preterm delivery in North Carolina. Dr. Ward’s research with the Carolinas RISA on extreme heat and preterm births has highlighted differences between the impact of heat on preterm labor in urban and rural areas as well as regional differences in North Carolina. Dr. Ward believes the RISA program consists of a group of “committed folks that help solve these issues” and bridges the science, data and knowledge gap between researchers, scientists and communities. Although Dr. Ward’s research raises concern, she says that the RISA program “gives her hope” for communities combating extreme heat.
