Natalie Bennett and Carli Brucker, graduate students supported by WWA, a NOAA RISA Team, will present work on local fire risk reduction planning and water quality planning in the face of wildfire risk. The webinar, titled “Planning for Fire: Wildfire, Water Quality, and Local Preparedness in the West,” features student work relating to the increase of size, severity, and frequency in Western U.S. wildfires. Natalie’s research uses community-level dynamics and socio-psychological factors that enable effective risk management for “fire-adapted” communities. Carli’s team is completing multi-scale burn analysis of water quality through lab simulations and basin-scale models, aiming to better prepare water managers to mitigate wildfire effects.
Join Natalie and Carli on October 12, 2022 from 12 PM to 1 PM MDT to learn more about their work.
