Drought Task Force Special Collection on Advancing Drought Monitoring and Prediction now available

This special collection of the Journal of Hydrometeorology focuses on scientific research to advance the U.S.’s capability to monitor and predict drought, including the development of new data and methodologies. The results presented in this issue represent the outcomes of research in large part funded by NOAA’s Modeling, Analysis, Predictions and Projections (MAPP) program, also leveraging other U.S. agencies’ investments, and coordinated within the framework of the MAPP Drought Task Force.

Workshop to help crop and range managers weather extreme and extended drought

A one-day workshop for Southern Plains farmers & ranchers in Garden City, KS, to discuss drought planning. The purpose of this workshop is to discuss planning for long-term and extreme drought in their operations.  The workshop will be at the 4-H building on the county fairgrounds. Registration and coffee begin at 8 a.m. It is a joint effort by the National Drought Mitigation Center at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Finney County Extension-KSU, and NOAA’s National Integrated Drought Information System (NIDIS).

MAPP Webinar Series: MAPP/CSI Webinar: Drought: Research and Information Supporting Preparedness

The NOAA CPO Modeling, Analysis, Prediction, and Projections program hosted a webinar jointly with the Climate and Societal Interactions Division on the research and information supporting drought preparedness, Friday, November 22, 2013. The webinar will explore drought research, how that research supports activities and capabilities in the user/decision maker communities, and how drought impacts and risks feed back into research directions.
