NOAA’s Climate Monitoring program competitively selected two new three-year projects totaling $855,734 in grants to produce observation-based global and (preferably) regional indices that facilitate monitoring the status, trends, extremes, and variability of ocean physical properties for the benefit of research, predictions, and decision makers. The two new projects join 13 multi-year projects totaling $2.2 million, that were funded last year in the same competition.

CPO’s Programs are seeking applications for 10 individual competitions in FY 2016. We estimate that $14 million will be available through this Announcement in FY 2016 for approximately 100 new awards pending budget appropriations. It is anticipated that most awards will be at a funding level between $50,000 and $300,000 per year, with some exceptions for larger awards. The CPO-sponsored National Integrated Drought Information System (NIDIS) in June 2015 has funded the Drought Risk Management Research Center (DRMRC), at the National Drought Mitigation Center (NDMC) at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. The center will focus on research to improve drought monitoring, impacts assessment and risk management in close partnership with NIDIS and its federal, state, tribal and local partners, domestically and internationally. NOAA’s Climate Program Office (CPO) has awarded more than $22.3 million to support 77 multi-year projects conducted by research partners. With these new awards, CPO helps improve the breadth and scope of climate research, and offers opportunities for collaboration within and integration between programs. NOAA’s Climate Program Office (CPO) is announcing the Federal Funding Opportunity for Fiscal Year 2015. Pending final budget appropriations, CPO expects approximately $15.5 million will be available through the announcement, and anticipates nearly 100 new awards between $50,000 to $200,000 each, with multi-year RISA awards ranging from $600,000 to $700,000 per year.
