Western Water Assessment, a NOAA CAP/RISA team, investigators Katie Clifford, Lisa Dilling, Seth Arens, and Benét Duncan co-authored a new article titled, “ The ‘Nuts and Bolts’ of Doing Coproduction: Exploring Implementation Decisions in Climate Adaptation Research with Stakeholders.” Most of the guidance for coproduction is focused on themes and ethical considerations such as trust, iteration and flexibility. While important, they do not include attention to specific, highly consequential research decisions that shape project outcomes. The investigators identify eight questions for researchers coproducing science to consider and discuss during project design based on a pilot project coproducing climate adaptation knowledge and strategies in six rural communities. They recommend pursuing these questions to create a dialogue for others and motivate explicit discussions of trade-offs involved in coproduced research with communities.
